Design Museum

Logo Design

Visual Identity

Objective

To design a new typographic Identity and logo for the Design Museum that brings design and the museum into the heart of the 21st century.

Challenge

  • Create a logo that represents contemporary design in every form from architecture and fashion to graphics, product and industrial design.

  • Compliment the inspirational Grade II former Commonwealth Institute building.

  • Attract a wide target audience including Designers, artists, researchers, students, tutors, tourists and discerning members of the public.

Outcome

After visiting the new site in London Kensington and witnessing the amazing hyperbolic paraboloid roof structure, I concluded that the architectural roots and history should be celebrated along with the arrival of its new tenants.

By combining the physical aspect of the building and the contemporary design aesthetics within, I was able to produce a modern new identity, one that celebrated design and simultaneously paid tribute to the buildings heritage and architectural beauty.
