Parley for the Oceans addresses major threats towards our oceans, the most important ecosystem of our planet. At least 40 million pounds of plastic has accumulated and is floating in the North Pacific Ocean alone and a significant percentage of it washes onto our coastlines daily. As a result whales, birds, turtles, fish and other species are seriously affected by plastic marine debris.

Objective

Create an immersive experience in line with Parley for the Oceans cause and in collaboration with Transport for London by using tube carriages, platforms and stations as a canvas to promote the fight against ocean plastic.

Challenge

To create a campaign for Parley Oceans that will:

  • Communicate the impact plastic pollution has on our oceans, sea animals and ecosystem.

  • Promote a call to action to reduce consumption of plastic and what we can do as individuals to reduce our use of virgin plastics and clean up our oceans.

Outcome

The experience invites commuters to dive down into the wondrous depths of the ocean, confronting them with the fragility of nature and its deterioration caused by our own plastic addiction.

Waterloo offers the perfect setting, being the busiest train station in Britain and itself a symbolic representation of consumerism and the overwhelming use of virgin plastics.

The experiences run throughout the station, including the ticket hall, tunnel, and the underground train. In doing so the message is embedded into the passenger journey, therefore maximising the opportunity for meaningful interaction.
